I’m not going to give you a step-by-step tutorial on how we hung our 3×6 white subway tile since I just shared the detailed process for the floor tile yesterday (and it’s very similar to that). And we’re obsessed with the bright & clean look we have going on in this space. However, we prevailed! It took us 2 weekends and multiple nights after work to get ‘er done, but we did it. I laid the first 2 rows of tile, glanced up to the top of the wall, and felt like there was no way in hell we could ever “climb” to the top! With 10 foot ceilings in the bathroom, and a plan to go all the way up to the ceiling, right then and there we knew we were in for it. We started in the shower and I seriously felt like I was climbing Mt. But even if you’re working hard, it’s still pretty slow work.Īnd we had A LOT of ground to cover. I will not stop until I complete tasks and Finn and I were determined to get this baby done. And here’s the thing…we are both workhorses. It certainly wasn’t a super difficult installation. Yes, we were tired and drained from all of the time spent on the floor…but subway tile certainly had to be easier than that marble floor…right?! Pencils, liners, quarter rounds … you name it.After installing the floor tile in our guest bathroom, Finn and I were so excited to start the subway tile. Marble accents are also pretty easy to come by. Marble AccentsĪ timeless method of adding a touch of sophistication and class to a tile design … utilization of marble accents! Marble is typically easy to coordinate into a design, as it comes in a variety of complimentary tones. The Schluter-JOLLY series of trim, for example, is available in chrome-plated solid brass, color-coated aluminum, anodized aluminum, and even PVC. So it’s fairly easy to find an option that coordinates with the design, as well as the fixtures/furnishings, in the space. Another plus…metal edging comes in a variety of finishes. Tile installation can be complex enough, right? An easier solution: consider using metal trim! Practical and unobtrusive, metal trim will protect the edges of the tile from chipping while completing the look of the design. Understandably, not everyone would want to take the time to individually manufacture bullnose tiles. An angle grinder with a polishing pad can then be used to buff the edge to match the finish on the rest of the tile. If you’re using a full-body porcelain tile, you can make your own finished edges! Using a wet saw that has been fitted with a bullnose blade, it’s possible to grind down and finish one edge to create a bullnose. Now it’s time to get creative! Here are three different ways to finish the edges of your design without using bullnose tile. In this example, the bullnose is on the long edge. Note: bullnose edging can be on either the long edge or short edge of the tile. In the example below, bullnose pieces of white subway tile were used to frame the shower wall and hide the exposed edging of the 3圆 tiles used in the design. But what if coordinating bullnose pieces aren’t available for the tile you picked? Here are three alternatives on what to use besides bullnose tile.įirst off, what is bullnose tile? Simply put, it’s trim that is used to provide a smooth, finished edge to your tile layout. Finishing the edges of your tile design gives an overall clean and polished look.
